Manchester City players have decided to refund the ticket costs to their supporters who traveled to Norway to back the team against Bodø/Glimt in Matchday 7 of the UEFA Champions League.
The City squad collectively raised close to £10,000 to compensate 374 fans who attended the match, which ended in a disappointing 3-1 defeat for the English champions.
Despite the large traveling support, who endured long journeys and freezing conditions, the team delivered a below-par performance on the night.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the gesture was led by senior players Bernardo Silva, Rúben Dias, Erling Haaland, and Rodri, with the total amount refunded reaching £9,357.
In a joint statement, the players said that their fans mean everything to them, and they understand the sacrifices they make by traveling across the world to support them home and away.
Therefore, they never take that support for granted, they are the best in the world.
They added that they know the trip to Bodø was tough, especially with the freezing temperatures, and it was difficult for fans to endure those conditions on a night when they did not perform to the required level.
Covering the ticket costs is the least they could do.
Kevin Parker, spokesperson for Manchester City’s official supporters’ club, praised the initiative, highlighting the loyalty of City fans who regularly travel to remote destinations to support their team.
He noted that reaching Bodø is not easy and that the extreme cold made the trip even more challenging for everyone involved.
