Manchester City, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Juventus will take part in a series of pre-season friendly matches in Hong Kong this August, as part of the “Hong Kong Football Festival,” organizers confirmed on Tuesday.
The tournament will open on August 1 with a high-profile clash between Manchester City and Inter Milan at the newly built Kai Tak Stadium, which holds 50,000 spectators and features a retractable roof and air-conditioning system designed to cope with Hong Kong’s intense summer heat and humidity.
City, led by manager Pep Guardiola and star striker Erling Haaland, will use the fixture as part of their preparations for the new season after another competitive Premier League campaign.
The festival will conclude on August 5, when Chelsea face Juventus in the final match of the mini-tournament.
Inter Milan, coached by former Romanian international Cristian Chivu, arrive as one of the strongest sides in Italy, sitting at the top of Serie A. Juventus, meanwhile, remain in the hunt for a Champions League qualification spot under manager Luciano Spalletti, as they continue to challenge for domestic success.
Chelsea will also look to rebuild momentum after a difficult run of results in the Premier League, where pressure has increased on the squad and coaching staff following recent setbacks.
In addition to the main fixtures, Hong Kong will also host another major friendly between Bayern Munich and Aston Villa on August 7, further highlighting the city’s growing role as a destination for global football events.
Last year’s pre-season matches in Hong Kong attracted large crowds, including 50,000 fans for games involving Liverpool, AC Milan, Tottenham and Arsenal, underlining the strong international appeal of the event.
