Radio France Internationale reported on Sunday that Malian Defense Minister Sadio Camara was killed in a coordinated attack by a rebel group and a terrorist group linked to al-Qaeda in the Sahel.
According to Reuters, the rebels targeted the defense minister at his residence in the Kati military base outside Bamako.
On Saturday and Sunday, Mali witnessed coordinated attacks by armed groups targeting the capital, Bamako, and several other cities, including Kati, Gao, Mopti, and Sévaré, while clashes renewed in Kidal in the north of the country.
The Malian army announced that it had repelled the attacks and launched operations to pursue the militants, indicating that there were casualties among their ranks. However, these figures could not be independently verified as fighting continued in some areas.
