In the earliest hours of Friday, Malpes former president Mohamed Nasheed was injured in an explosion nearby his house.
Nasheed who is serving now as a speaker in the parliament of the Indian-ocean state was transferred to hospital for treatment, according to authorities.
"Following an explosion... [the] Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment," a statement issued by police asserted.
In the same context, the current president of the Malpes Ibu Solih said that police have started investigating the accident. However, a member of the parliament told the BBC that this attack was targeted against Nasheed.
