Inter Milan have confirmed a significant injury setback for captain Lautaro Martínez at a crucial stage of the season.

The 28-year-old striker was forced off shortly after the hour mark during Wednesday’s first-leg clash against Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League knockout play-off round in Norway.

In an official statement released on Friday, Inter announced that Martínez is suffering from a muscle injury in his left calf. The club added that the Argentine forward will undergo further medical evaluation next week to assess the extent of the damage.

According to Italian outlets Sky Italia and Corriere dello Sport, Martínez could be sidelined for up to a month, a timeframe that would rule him out of several key fixtures.

Martínez’s absence comes at a delicate moment for Inter, who currently lead the Serie A table under head coach Cristian Chivu.

The striker is expected to miss the return leg against Bodø/Glimt, as well as important domestic matches, including the highly anticipated derby against AC Milan in two weeks’ time.

Martínez has been instrumental for Inter this season, scoring 18 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions. His potential month-long absence represents a major challenge for the Nerazzurri as they juggle domestic and European ambitions.
