Majida El Roumi Arrives in Egypt for Cairo Opera House Concert

Iconic Lebanese soprano Majida El Roumi arrived Tuesday evening in Cairo ahead of her upcoming concert at the Cairo Opera House, on November 15.

El Roumi shared the news on Twitter alongside a photo from her flight, saying: "From Beirut Set El Donya to Egypt, mother of the world. Meet you on the evening of November 15th at Cairo Opera House 🌸❤️🌸".

The Iconic soprano is set to conclude the 30th edition of the Arab Music Festival and Conference. The concert will be held at the Cairo Opera House’s Fountain Theater, at 08:00 PM (Cairo local time).

The 30th Arab Music Festival and Conference, which kicked off November 1, is dedicated to late legendary musicians Abdo Dagher and Gamal Salama.

It is hosted at six theatres in Cairo, Alexandria, and Beheiraand witnesses 33 performances by over 100 artists from 10 Arab countries, including Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Tunisia, Palestine, Jordan, and Oman.

On the other hand, El Roumi is set to perform live at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre, in Dubai, UAE, on November 25.

The iconic soprano was born in Kfarshima village, Lebanon, to musician Halim El Roumi, on December 13, 1956.

The village was also home to many Lebanese singers, musicians, and poets such as Philimon Wehbe, Melhem Barakat, and Issam Rajji.

The singer’s residence was a meeting place for many cultural figures as he worked with many singers.

At the age of 5, she sang her first song “Miladak” (Your Birth) in reference to the birth of Jesus Christ and dedicated it to her brother on his birthday.

She participated in the talent show “Studio El Fan” in 1974 after sneaking out of the house with her brother and cousins, where she won the gold medal for oriental singing. Her success prompted her father to change his mind and give her his blessings to pursue a singing career as long as she continues her higher education.

In 1975, the soprano released her first single “Am Behlamak” (I’m dreaming of you, Lebanon) in collaboration with Lebanese poet Said Akl and musician Elias Rahbani.

After releasing her first album "Wadaa" (Farewell) in 1976, she got the attention of the Egyptian renowned director Youssef Chahine.

She starred alongside Egyptian actor Hesham Selim in her first and only film “Awdat Al Ibn Al Dal” (The Return of the Prodigal Son) and performed three soundtracks in it.
