Iconic Lebanese soprano Majida El Roumi arrived Thursday evening in Cairo ahead of her upcoming concert at the Qubba Palace, on April 2.

El Roumi will be joined by the maestro Nader Abbasi and the Philharmony Union Orchestra. The soprano will be the first to perform at the Palace after it was opened to the public.

The Qubba Palace is considered one of the largest royal palaces located in the Saray al-Qubba area, east of Cairo. It stretches over 190 acres.

The grandest royal palace of the Mohamed Ali dynasty, Khepe Ismail constructed it on the remains of an old house owned by his father Ibrahim Pasha. Construction lasted from 1867 to 1872.

The wedding of Crown Prince Mohamed Tawfik marked the official inauguration of Qubba Palace. With that, the palace became a popular site for the royal family’s extravagant wedding parties. The funeral ceremony of King Fouad I was also held at the place.
