Ambassador Majed Abdel Fattah, the Arab League's permanent representative of the Arab League to the UN, indicated that the draft resolution in the United Nations General Assembly regarding the Palestinian issue is based on the decision of the International Court of Justice.
He explained that there is strong momentum towards the recognition of the Palestinian state.
Speaking to the "Alqahera News" channel, he mentioned, "Obtaining United Nations membership requires extensive consultations and negotiations."
"The Arab group met last week and agreed on utilizing the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice on July 19 to initiate a new move in the United Nations. This involves holding a special session for the tenth session of the General Assembly on Palestine."
He also emphasized that the submitted draft resolution, currently under negotiation, aims to achieve several goals. "These include compelling Israel to comply with the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice, which entails ceasing legal settlements, fulfilling international obligations, withdrawing military forces, ending illegal policies and practices, and settlements, as well as returning all residents and immigrants to their original places," Abdel Fattah noted.
Lately, Norway, Ireland, and Spain have recognized the Palestinian State. This brings the total number to nearly 150, reflecting broad international consensus.
Also, the ongoing Gaza conflict adds new relevance and urgency to the legal status of Palestine.
