German Club Mainz has terminated the contract of the Moroccan/Dutch star Anwar El Ghazi for his support for Gaza statements on social media.
The former Everton and Aston Villa forward was suspended by the Bundesliga side on October 17 after posting various posts to show his support for Gaza and Palestine, before the player deleted them.
Mainz said after suspending the player that his posts don't align with the values of the club."
The German club has confirmed El Ghazi's contract was terminated "in response to comments and posts from the player on social media".
El Ghazi responded by saying: "'Stand for what is right, even if it means standing alone.'
"The loss of my livelihood is nothing when compared to the hell being unleashed on the innocent and vulnerable in Gaza #stopthekilling."
