Algeria national team captain and Manchester City winger, Riyad Mahrez, spoke about his team’s ambition in this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Algeria were drawn in Group E alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Sierre Leone, who play their first AFCON since 1996. The latter will also be the Fennecs’ opponent in the opening game on 11 January.
The defending champions’ captain attended the pre-game press conference, during which he reaffirmed his team’s main goal, which is to reassert their dominance on the continent.
“We want to make our country and people proud,” Mahrez said.
“We came to Cameroon to perform as well as we did in 2019,” he added.
