Al Ahly president Mahmoud El Khatib announced that he will not participate in the club’s next board elections, citing health reasons and the need to step back from daily pressures.

In an official statement, El Khatib reflected on his eight years at the helm, during which he served two terms as president.

He highlighted the club’s achievements across several levels, crediting them to collective effort and institutional work with his fellow board members, both past and present.

He noted that he had attempted on several occasions to step back on medical advice, but ongoing challenges required his continued involvement.

Now, however, he stressed the necessity of following his doctors’ recommendations to distance himself from stress and focus on treatment.

With elections set to be called in less than two months, Al Ahly's legend confirmed he will not stand for another term.

He expressed full confidence in the board’s ability to manage the next stage and pledged to remain available for consultation until a new board is elected.

He also urged Al Ahly members to attend the club’s general assembly on Friday, September 19, 2025, to actively participate in shaping the future of the institution.
