A magnitude 4.9 earthquake struck Thursday morning in the Antofagasta province in northern Chile, according to the US Geological Survey.
In a statement, the agency said that the epicenter of the earthquake was 56 kilometers from the city of Olagoye, located in the region, and at a depth of 116.4 kilometers.
There have been no reports so far of material or human damage resulting from the earthquake.
Chile is located in an area called the “Ring of Fire,” an arc of faults that surround the Pacific Basin.
