Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli on Tuesday held a meeting to review the pace of work at land reclamation projects implemented by the Egyptian Countryside Development Company.

As per President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's directives, the premier called for preparing a study on the cost of basic infrastructure and facilities of lands owned by the company.

Madbouli pointed out that a periodic meeting will be held to follow up the progress in these projects.

On his part, Chairman of the Egyptian Countryside Development Company Amr Abdel Wahab briefed the prime minister on the reclamation projects of the company's lands in several areas across the nation.

Abdel Wahab told the prime minister that the company signed a cooperation agreement with the Agriculture Bank of Egypt to reclaim 1.5 million feddans in the areas of El Maghra, West Minya and Toshka.

Madbouli also conferred with Transport Minister Kamel el Wazir to follow up the development plan of the national railway network, as well as a project for linking the electric train with the diesel one.

Reviewing his ministry’s plan, Wazir said it depends on upgrading the signaling system, duplicating the high-density single-track railways and establishing new lines.

"The plan also includes establishing a fast electric monorail network and linking it with the existing railway networks, main roads, and different types of ports," Wazir added.

"This plan aims at developing the current railway network, at a total length of 9,570 kilometers," Wazir said.

"Plans have been prepared for developing the infrastructure via upgrading the signaling systems at all main lines, with a total length of 1,800 kilometers," he said, adding that work is underway for implementing 971 kilometers of them, at a cost of EGP 9.8 billion.

"A project for duplicating high-density single-track railways and converting their signals into the electrical system will be implemented, at a cost of EGP 37 billion, bringing the total cost to EGP 46.8 billion," Wazir noted.
