Moments ago, the French president Emmanuel Macron called on Turkey to stop drilling for gas in the Mediterranean and to stop exporting weapons to Libya, warning of prospected punishment for the Ankara.

France and Greece agreed this morning  to punish Turkey if it did not withdraw its ships and stop its violations in the eastern Mediterranean.

Paris and Athens considered that Turkey's unacceptable behavior requires a firm European response.

Macron stressed that Turkey's role in the eastern Mediterranean is disturbing as it is trying to extend its control over the eastern Mediterranean region.

He added: "We stand in solidarity with Greece and Cyprus regarding the Turkish provocations in the Mediterranean, and Turkey must end its unilateral moves and illegal exploration operations in the Mediterranean."

His remarks came as he received the Greek Prime Minister this morning in Paris.

The heads of state and government of France, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Italy, Spain and Portugal met on the French Mediterranean island of Corsica this morning to discuss unacceptable Turkish provocations.

Worth noting that the southern European Union countries announced that they are ready to apply a list of sanctions against Turkey unless it backs down from its unilateral actions.

"The European Union will draw up a list of new sanctions on Turkey at the end of September unless Ankara comes to the negotiating table to resolve a territorial row with Greece and Cyprus," the EU's Mediterranean states said on Thursday.
