French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted following Argentina’s win against France in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final in Qatar Sunday evening.
“The Blues made us dream,” Macron wrote on Twitter, hailing the French national football team’s performance in the match.
Macron was seen comforting Kylian Mbappé after the loss, as he was trying to put an arm around the French striker after the final whistle as he joined other players on the pitch.
However, Mbappé shrugged off the president and it looked like he was the last person the player wanted to see.
Arthur Currie, a user on Twitter, wrote: “Mbappé wanted none of that”, while another one said: “Macron get your hands off Mbappé you demon.”
Mbappé stunned Argentina and force extra time, as he scored on a penalty in the 80th minute and added a second goal two minutes later to equalize.
With a 3-3 (4-2 penalty kick shootout) victory over defending champion France, legend Lionel Messi became a World Cup champion in what might be his final World Cup match. This marks Argentina's third title throughout the years.
