French President Emmanuel Macron started an African tour that includes Cameroon, Benin, and Guinea-Bissau, in the first trip to Africa during his new term.

Radio France International reported today, Tuesday, that Macron began his West Africa tour by visiting the capital of Cameroon, "Yaounde".

He is scheduled to meet today with the French community in Cameroon, as well as with representatives of civil society and youth, and will also be received by Cameroon's President Paul Biya.

The radio added that the two presidents are scheduled to hold hour-long bilateral talks at the Unity Palace in the Cameroonian capital, and they will also hold a joint press conference.

On its part, the Elysee Palace announced that the French-Cameroonian bilateral talks will address various issues such as governance and the rule of law, in addition to the political future and stability of Cameroon and the ongoing crisis in the predominantly English-speaking regions in the northwest and southwest, as well as Boko Haram in the far north and piracy in the Gulf of Guinea.

The radio indicated that this visit is an opportunity for Macron to support his desire to highlight youth and civil society through round tables, following the 28th African-French summit held last October in the coastal city of Montpellier in southeastern France.

On Wednesday, the French president is scheduled to travel to Benin, which has faced bloody attacks from terrorists who infiltrated from the Sahel region to the Gulf of Guinea countries and will conclude his tour on Thursday in Guinea-Bissau.
