"Luther: The Fallen Sun" Teaser, Release Date Unveiled

Netflix unveiled Thursday the teaser and release date of British actor Idris Elba's highly-anticipated movie “Luther: The Fallen Sun”, undoubtedly one of the streamer’s most anticipated movie of the year.

The movie is set to premiere in select theaters on February 24 and March 10 on Netflix.

“Luther: The Fallen Sun” is a spin-off to the hit BBC crime series “Luther“and sees the British actor reprising his role as London detective John Luther in the spin-off.

The highly-anticipated movie will also feature Cynthia Erivo and Andy Serkis.

“Luther” centered on grim and grisly storylines of murder and crime in London and has run for five seasons since it first premiered in 2010.

The series earned Critics Choice, Golden Globes, and SAG awards for Elba, as well as Emmy nominations.

“Luther: The Fallen Sun” is a continuation of the TV series, which will also feature Serkis as the criminal mastermind being hunted, while Erivo will star as a rival detective to Luther.

Veteran TV director Jamie Payne, who directed Season 5 of the show, helmed the spin-off from a script written by series creator Neil Cross. The movie will be produced by Netflix.

Cross and Elba will also produce the movie along with Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and David Ready of Chernin Entertainment. Chernin’s Dan Finlay, BBC Studios’ Priscilla Parish, and Kris Thykier serve as executive producers.
