Romelu Lukaku has revealed the reasons behind his absence from the Belgium national football team camp ahead of recent friendlies against the United States and Mexico, citing ongoing fitness concerns.

The striker, who plays for Napoli, confirmed that he left the camp to focus on recovery following a demanding season marked by injuries and personal challenges.

He also dismissed speculation suggesting any disagreement with his club.

Lukaku explained that medical tests conducted in Belgium showed inflammation and fluid buildup in a thigh muscle near scar tissue, a recurrence of the issue he experienced when returning to action last November.

As a result, he opted to follow an individualized rehabilitation program to ensure a full recovery.

Despite the setback, Lukaku reaffirmed his strong commitment to Napoli, stressing that his loyalty to the club remains unchanged and that his main objective is to return to full fitness and contribute to the team’s success.

He also acknowledged the mental toll of his recent health struggles, emphasizing the importance of regaining both physical and psychological readiness.

Lukaku concluded by expressing his determination to support both Napoli and Belgium in upcoming challenges, including a key match scheduled for June 15 as part of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
