Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez received a six-match suspension by the disciplinary committee of the Leagues Cup, following his misconduct during Inter Miami’s defeat to Seattle Sounders in the tournament final.

The heated clash ended 3-0 in Seattle’s favor, securing their first-ever Leagues Cup title. Tensions flared in the closing moments when Suárez clashed with midfielder Obed Vargas, sparking a wider confrontation.

Cameras also captured Suárez spitting toward a Sounders staff member, an act that triggered the disciplinary action.

The committee confirmed the ban will take effect in next year’s edition of the competition, adding that further sanctions could be imposed if necessary.

Other Inter Miami members were also penalized: Sergio Busquets received a two-match suspension, Tomás Avilés three matches, and assistant coach Steven Lenhart five matches for their roles in the post-match chaos.

Suárez, the former Barcelona and Liverpool forward, issued a public apology on Instagram earlier this week:

"First, I want to congratulate Seattle Sounders on winning the Leagues Cup. More importantly, I want to apologize for my behavior after the final whistle. It was a tense and frustrating moment, but that does not excuse my reaction. I was wrong and I am sincerely sorry. This is not the image I want to show my family, my club, or our supporters. I take full responsibility and will work to make sure this does not happen again."
