Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman is edging closer to a move to the Turkish Super Lig during the final hours of the January transfer window, with Fenerbahce stepping up efforts to secure his signature from Atalanta.
Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia reported that representatives of Fenerbahce and Atalanta held a meeting on Friday to discuss the potential transfer of the 27-year-old attacker.
Negotiations are understood to be ongoing as the Turkish club pushes to finalize the deal before the winter window closes at the end of January.
According to the report, Atalanta are open to listening to offers for Lookman, but the Serie A side is weighing its options between selling the Nigerian international or parting ways with Kamaldeen Sulemana.
The club’s recent acquisition of Giacomo Raspadori from Atletico Madrid has added flexibility to its attacking options, potentially paving the way for a departure.
It remains unclear whether Fenerbahce will meet Atalanta’s valuation, although previous reports suggested that the Istanbul-based giants were prepared to submit an offer worth up to €40 million to land Lookman.
Meanwhile, reports linking Fenerbahce with Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski appear to have stalled.
The Polish forward is said to have rejected the idea of moving to the Turkish league once his contract with the Spanish club expires at the end of the current season.
Turkish media had previously claimed that Fenerbahce were keen to sign Lewandowski during the current winter window on a lucrative 18-month contract running until 2027.
However, Sky Sports later reported that AC Milan are monitoring the situation closely, with the Italian club interested in signing the veteran striker on a free transfer.
As the January deadline approaches, Fenerbahce’s focus now appears firmly set on completing a deal for Lookman, which would represent one of the most high-profile moves in the closing stages of the winter market.
