British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps said on Sunday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's statements rejecting any "Palestinian sovereignty" in the post-Gaza war period were "disappointing."

Shapps told the station in press statements that “it is disappointing to hear this from the Israeli Prime Minister,” stressing that for Britain there is “no choice but” a two-state solution to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed during the Non-Aligned Movement summit in Uganda that “everyone must recognize the right of the Palestinian people to build their state” and that any “denial” of this right is “unacceptable.”

Guterres said, “Refusing to accept a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians, as well as denying the right of the Palestinian people to establish a state, is unacceptable,” adding, “This would indefinitely prolong a conflict that has become a major threat to global peace and security, leading to exacerbation of polarization.” "And encourage extremists around the world."

The Secretary-General of the United Nations stressed that "everyone must recognize the right of the Palestinian people to build their state."

In its final statement, the Non-Aligned Movement “strongly condemned the illegal Israeli military aggression against the Gaza Strip,” calling for a “permanent humanitarian ceasefire.”

The countries also called for "the independence and sovereignty of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to achieve the two-state solution."

Recently, the United States, Israel's main ally and its most prominent supporter in its war against Hamas, confirmed its support for the establishment of a Palestinian state, which sparked disagreements with the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
