Liverpool will be without their Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker for the highly anticipated Premier League showdown against Chelsea on Saturday, the club confirmed on Wednesday morning.

Alisson sustained a heavy knock during Tuesday night’s Champions League fixture against Galatasaray in Istanbul.

The Reds’ No.1 was forced off in the second half at Rams Park after a fierce strike from Victor Osimhen, prompting head coach Arne Slot to admit post-match that the chances of the goalkeeper’s availability were “extremely slim.”

The injury crisis deepened further as French striker Hugo Ekitike was also withdrawn in the 68th minute of the same match with a muscle problem.

Liverpool’s medical team will run additional assessments to determine whether the forward can feature at Stamford Bridge.

The absence of Alisson is a significant setback for Liverpool, who are desperate to bounce back from their European defeat and reassert themselves in the Premier League.

The Reds currently sit 16th in the table with three points, having won once and lost once in their opening two fixtures, scoring and conceding three goals.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray occupy 19th place with three points from a win and a defeat, registering two goals and conceding five.
