Liverpool FC have reportedly made a decisive call on the future of head coach Arne Slot following a challenging season marked by a decline in results.
According to German outlet Bild, the club’s management has decided that the current campaign will be Slot’s last in charge, after Liverpool fell out of the Premier League title race and struggled in their bid to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.
The report adds that Liverpool have identified Xabi Alonso as their preferred successor, with a preliminary agreement already in place for a three-year contract starting next season.
However, the deal is said to depend on Liverpool’s performance in the UEFA Champions League, with Alonso expected to officially take over if the club fails to win the tournament this season.
Liverpool are preparing for a crucial period, including a clash against Manchester City in the FA Cup quarter-finals, followed by a high-stakes encounter with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League quarter-finals next week.
The developments suggest a potential major transition at Anfield as the club looks to rebuild and return to competing at the highest level.
