Spanish fourth-division side UE Cornellà has officially announced that Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, currently playing for Inter Miami CF, has acquired the club, becoming its new owner.

In an official statement, the club said the move strengthens Messi’s deep ties to FC Barcelona and reflects his commitment to developing local talent in Catalonia, a relationship rooted in his historic years with Barcelona and continuing beyond.

Founded in 1951, Cornellà is regarded as one of the historic clubs in Catalan football and has built a strong reputation for its youth academy and ability to compete at high levels of semi-professional Spanish football.

Over the years, the club has developed several notable players who reached top-tier football, including David Raya, Jordi Alba, Javi Puado, Keita Baldé, Aitor Ruibal, and Ilie Sánchez.

Messi has also shown a strong commitment to youth development through initiatives like the “Messi Cup,” a tournament launched in Miami featuring top under-16 teams such as Newell's Old Boys, Inter Milan, River Plate, Atlético Madrid, Chelsea FC, Manchester City FC, and Barcelona.

The arrival of Messi marks the beginning of a new chapter in Cornellà’s history, with ambitions to drive sporting and institutional growth, strengthen its foundations, and continue investing in youth talent under a long-term strategic vision focused on sustainability and local identity.
