Libyan conflicting parties are set to meet in Geneva, Switzerland, on October 15 to appoint a new presidential council, Sources told Al-Arabiya TV channel.

The sources added that 80 Libyan personalities will participate at the meetings including 13 MPs and 13 members of the State Council.

"The new government will be formed in order to unify Libyan institutions, especially economic and financial," said advisor of the Libyan Parliament Speaker, Fathi Al-Marimi.

It is expected that the Geneva meetings will lead to agreement on the formation of the Presidential Council, consisting of three persons representing the three regions of Tripoli, Brega and Fezzan.

Representatives of the United Nations, the United States, the United Kingdom France, China, Turkey and Italy will participate.

There will also be Arab participation in the conference, represented by Egypt, Algeria, the UAE and the Arab League

On 14 September, the Interim Government submitted its resignation to the Parliament Speaker, Aguila Saleh, after large-scale demonstrations.

Following that, the Prime Minister of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez al-Sarraj announced his intention to step down by the end of October.

Notably, the commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA) Khalifa Haftar and Aguila Saleh arrived in Cairo on Tuesday for talks with Egyptian officials, Al-Arabiya News reported.

According to sources that spoke with Al-Arabiya, the two sides will discuss the latest developments in Libya, particularly the latest round of talks between the eastern-based House of Representatives and the GNA government, with the target of reaching a political settlement.
