Libyan Airlines announced on Monday evening the resumption of its flights with Egypt, after a year-halt, as the two Arab-African countries seek to strengthen the mutual relationships.
According to the company's statement, the flights will depart from Benina Airport in Benghazi to the Egyptian Burg Al Arab Airport in Alexandria on Thursday, adding that another flight will depart from Maitiga airport, Tripoli, heading to Alexandria next week.
The announcement of the resumption of flights between Libya and Egypt coincides with the arrival of an Egyptian diplomatic delegation to Tripoli to reopen the Egyptian embassy after a six year-halt.
According to Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) Mohammed Qiblawi, the visit was taking place as part of coordinated efforts between the two countries.
In December 2020, a high-level Egyptian delegation had visited Tripoli, and held meetings with senior GNA officials. The delegation included the Deputies of the Egyptian Defense Ministry, Foreign Ministry, and the Deputy Head of Egyptian Intelligence. The visit was the first of its kind since 2014 by Egyptian officials to Tripoli.
