Libya: Sisi Hails Eastern, Western Parties' Recent Positive Interaction

President Abdel Fattah El Sisi discussed Libyan developments with Parliament Speaker and the Army's Commander in Cairo and hailed the "positive" interaction of eastern and western parties.

Sisi received this morning, Wednesday, at Ettahadiya Presidential Palace, Aguila Saleh, Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives and Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander of the Libyan National Army (LNA). The meeting was also attended by Egypt’s Head of General Abbas Kamel.

“President Sisi was briefed, during the meeting, on developments in Libya and the efforts of all parties to implement a field ceasefire,” said Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

Rady added that the meeting tackled also the Libyan efforts to advance the peace process under the auspices of the United Nations.

Libya: Sisi Hails Eastern, Western Parties' Positive Recent Interaction“The president expressed his appreciation to the positive and tangible interaction of all parties, in eastern or western Libya, with the mechanisms for resolving the crisis,” Rady added.

The meeting comes within the ongoing Egyptian efforts to achieve security and stability for the brotherly Libyan state and support its people in preserving the safety and capabilities of his country in facing terrorist organizations and armed militias, and undermining foreign interference.

The presidential spokesperson noted that, at the beginning of the meeting, Sisi welcomed the Libyan leaders, stressing Egypt's steadfast position in supporting the political solution to the Libyan crisis, away from foreign interference.

“The president also welcomed positive steps that shall lead to calm, peace, construction and development in Libya,” Rady reveled.

On his side, Sisi lauded the results of all international and regional meetings held recently that emphasized the establishment of peace and the activation of the paths of a comprehensive political solution.

Moreover, the Egyptian president praised the efforts and moves made by Speaker Saleh to support the political path and unify the executive and legislative institutions in Libya.

He also valued the position of the military establishment led by Field Marshal Haftar in combating terrorism and his commitment to the ceasefire.

Sisi called on all parties to engage positively onto all political, economic, military and security paths to resolving the Libyan crisis emanating from the Berlin Summit under the auspices of the United Nations and the Cairo Declaration, so as to hold presidential and parliamentary elections that will bring stability, prosperity and development to all Libyans.

In this regard, he urged all Libyan parties to unify their positions to get out of the current crisis and to pay the greatest attention to the nation's interest regardless of any considerations.

The official spokesman manifested that the Libyan officials expressed their honor to meet Sisi, out of their great appreciation for the pivotal and extremely important Egyptian role under his leadership in stabilizing the foundations of peace and achieving stability in Libya, preserving the capabilities of the Libyan people and working to activate their will.

Saleh and Haftar also reaffirmed Egypt's support for the efforts of the Libyan institutions in combating terrorism and extremist groups and re-launching the political process with the participation of regional and international powers concerned with the Libyan issue.
