Lesser-known Facts about Mariam Fakhr-Eddine on Her 89th Birth Anniv.

Today marks the 89th birth anniversary of Egyptian cinema actress Mariam Fakhr-Eddine — best known for playing "Ingy" in (Rodda Qalbi- 1952).

Fakhr-Eddine was regarded as one of the major figures during Egypt’s golden age of cinema. 

Fakhr-Eddine began her acting career in the 1950s and her portfolio includes over 200 films, including ‘Hikayat Hob’ (Stories of Love) starring the legendary singer and actor Abdel-Halim Hafez.

Born in Fayyoum, she was the daughter of a Muslim Egyptian father and a Christian mother from Hungary. The remarkable actress is also the sister of actor Youssef Fakhr-Eddine, who passed away in 2002.

After her graduation, she won the title of Most Beautiful Face in a pageant organized by the well-known French-language magazine Image.

The remarkable actress made her screen debut in the 1951 film A Night of Love, directed by her husband Mahmoud Zulficar.

This movie was her first break in the industry for which she received her first good salary. She has appeared in a number of successful films, including 'Lailat Gharam', 'Shaytan al-Sahr' and Back Again.

Among her notable works are The Murderous Suspicion (1953), Devil of the Sahara (1954), The Love Message (1954), A Window on Paradise (1954), Rodda Qalbi (1957), Maww’ed Ma El Maadi (1961), Al Qasr Al Ma’oun (1962) and Soft Hands (1964).

The veteran actress married twice, first to filmmaker Mahmoud Zulficar, with whom she had one daughter, Iman, and second to Syrian singer Fahd Ballan.

The renowned Egyptian actress passed away at 81 on November 3, 2014 at a military hospital in Cairo.
