On Friday, Lebanon's Foreign Ministry said on Twitter that Lebanon will fulfill its financial obligations and pay its annual contribution to the United Nations.

"The [Lebanese] debt to the United Nations, which amounts to $1.8 million, will be paid in the coming days," the document said. The government has already given the orders."

The Ministry did not specify the reason for the delay in the annual fee.

Previously, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres mentioned that apart from Lebanon, the Dominican Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, South Sudan, and Venezuela have failed to fulfill their financial obligations to the UN.

All of these countries were affected by Article 19 of the Charter of the United Nations and lost their right to vote in the meetings of the General Assembly.

This is the second time that Lebanon has failed to pay its fees since October 2019, when the country faced unprecedented economic difficulties. The World Bank described this crisis as the most catastrophic since the mid-nineteenth century.

According to the World Bank, 70% of the Lebanese live in poverty. Inflation is growing at 145% - the third highest after Venezuela and Sudan.
