Israel's Channel 13 reported the conclusion of the meeting between Lebanon and Israel in Washington, a step taken as part of a diplomatic effort to contain the escalation on the southern front.
A US State Department official confirmed that these talks had been planned for a month, prior to discussions about the Islamabad negotiations, emphasizing that there was no connection between the two tracks.
The US official accused Iran of "dragging Lebanon into a war," asserting that it cannot present itself as a protector of Lebanon. He also stressed that Washington will not allow Tehran to dictate Lebanon's future.
The official described Hezbollah as a terrorist organization that should have no role, affirming US support for its complete disarmament. He indicated that the talks are part of a broader effort to curb Iran's influence in the region.
