Lazio and AC Milan meet for the second time in five days when they face off at 10:00 PM tonight, Thursday, in a strong Round-of-16 clash in the Coppa Italia, with both teams aiming to snatch a place in the quarter-finals.
This match comes after Milan’s hard-fought 1–0 league win over Lazio at San Siro, thanks to a goal from Rafael Leão and an excellent performance from goalkeeper Mike Maignan, along with widespread controversy following a late VAR intervention.
Lazio head to the contest the match hoping to capitalize on home advantage and fan support to make up for their recent defeat, especially as they have failed to score away from home for nearly 400 minutes.
The team aim to change the narrative at the Stadio Olimpico. Lazio currently sit eighth in Serie A and avoided the preliminary rounds of the Coppa Italia thanks to finishing last season in the top eight.
The team suffers from several absences, most notably Samuel Gigot, Matteo Cancellieri, Nicolò Rovella, and Danilo Cataldi. Meanwhile, Valentín Castellanos has returned after a long absence, but his chances of starting remain uncertain, which could push the coach to rely on Tijjani Noslin or Boulaye Dia in attack.
On the other side, Milan is expected to field a strong lineup despite attacking absences.
Christian Pulisic remains sidelined with injury, while Rafael Leão and Christopher Nkunku are likely to form the main attacking duo.
Coach Massimiliano Allegri brings great experience to the competition, being the most decorated coach in its history with five titles.
