FC Barcelona has officially entered a new political chapter after club president Joan Laporta announced his resignation, triggering the launch of the presidential election process in accordance with the club’s statutes.

On Monday, February 9, the Catalan giants published the formal notice confirming the opening of the electoral process, following approval by the board of directors. The club confirmed that voting for members will take place on March 15, setting the stage for a decisive moment in Barcelona’s institutional future.

According to the official schedule released by the club, the election process will unfold over the coming weeks with a series of clearly defined steps. The official election notice was issued on February 9, while a public draw to select members of both the Electoral Committee and the Supervisory Committee will take place by February 12. These committees are expected to be formally constituted on February 13 or 14.

From February 15, potential candidates will be able to begin collecting endorsement forms, while the voter registry will be published between February 15 and February 19. Any objections to the registry will be reviewed from February 20 to February 22, after which the final list of eligible voters will be approved.

The official nomination period will run from February 23 to March 2. Between March 3 and March 5, endorsement forms will be counted, and candidates who secure the support of at least 50 percent of the required members will be officially confirmed.

The election campaign is scheduled to take place from March 6 to March 13, followed by a mandatory reflection day on March 14. Club members will then head to the polls on March 15 to elect Barcelona’s next president.
