British driver Lando Norris clinched the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship on Sunday, finishing third in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to secure his first-ever world title.
Although Max Verstappen won the race at Yas Marina for the fifth time in his career, the Red Bull star fell two points short of overtaking Norris in the final standings.
Norris ended the season with 423 points, ahead of Verstappen’s 421, while McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri finished second in the race and third overall with 410 points.
The result makes Norris the 11th British driver to win the F1 world title and completes a historic season for McLaren, who also secured the Constructors’ Championship earlier this year, achieving the double for the first time since 1998.
Verstappen’s Abu Dhabi victory also ties Lewis Hamilton’s record of five wins at the circuit.
