Teenage star Lamine Yamal headlines Spain’s preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announced by head coach Luis de la Fuente.
The biggest surprise in the 55-man preliminary list was the omission of veteran defender Dani Carvajal. Spanish reports revealed that De la Fuente personally informed the Real Madrid captain of the decision during a phone call, despite previously relying heavily on him whenever fit.
Only three Real Madrid players made the squad: Dean Huijsen, Fran García, and Gonzalo García, while FC Barcelona dominated the lineup calls, with nine players included.
Barcelona’s representatives feature several key names, including Pedri, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Ferran Torres, and Pau Cubarsí.
The squad also included several unexpected names such as Leo Román, Víctor Gómez, Sergio Gómez, Jon Martín, and Toni Martínez.
Spain will begin their World Cup campaign against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta as part of Group H, which also includes Uruguay and Saudi Arabia.
