The Los Angeles Lakers made a loud statement taking their first step towards tying the Boston Celtics record after Anthony Davis and LeBron James scored 59 points in the 116-98 victory over the Miami Heat in Game 1 of the NBA finals.

Beating the Heat, the Lakers took (1-0) series lead, in the series which is decided on the basis of best in 7 games.

LeBron James recorded 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 9 assists and Anthony Davis added a game-high 34 points and 9 rebounds, for the Lakers.

It was the three-point shooting that was the key to Lakers' victory, as it turned an early 13-point deficit at some point in the match into a 32-point lead.

The squad set a team record by scoring 11 three-pointers in the first half, the team's highest in any half- in its history in the knockout rounds.

Lakers began their first finals match since 2010 poorly, with Heat scoring 13 straight points to lead (25-12), forcing Frank Vogel to request a time-out to stop his team's decline.

L.A. squad had won the title 16 times, trailed by one title over rivals Celtics.

The Heat was hobbled by injuries as Bam Adebayo left in the third quarter with a shoulder strain, while Goran Dragić suffered a left foot injury before halftime.

The two teams face-off again on Friday.
