LAFF Announces Uganda as Guest of Honor

Luxor African Film Festival (LAFF) organizing committee announced the full details of the forthcoming edition that will be held between March 4 and 10.

The organizers revealed that there are ten features are listed to participate in the official competition, and 15 short films are set to compete in the short film contest. In addition, there will be four competitions organized b the foundation of Independent Artists.

Moreover, the theme of the festival will be "Re-Exploring Egypt" which will be dedicated to the beauty of the Egyptian sites in the cinema, especially on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Tutankhamun tomb in Luxor discovery.

Uganda was selected as the LAFF forthcoming edition’s guest of honor. In addition, the festival will pay a tribute to the Senegalese composer, director, and actor Djibril Diop Mambéty.

Therefore, the festival’s board will release a book in Arabic and French about Mambéty. The book will include his biography, career, influences, contributions, reception, and analysis of his most iconic works.

Director Azza El Husseiny expressed that one of Mambéty’s restored films will be screened on the sidelines of the LAFF’s events. El Husseiny added that the film was restored by the leading cooperation of Martin Scorsese.

Moreover, the late artist’s son will participate in the festival as he will receive his father’s award, and will take part in a seminar about his father.

It is worthy to mention that the previous edition kicked off on March 25, and it selected Sudan as the 10th edition’s guest of honor to celebrate the history of Sudanese cinema.
