La Liga Ambassadors to Hold Online Press Conference ahead of Restart

La Liga's football legends and current ambassadors are set to hold a press conference on Wednesday, June the 3rd in which they are set to discuss the restart of the world's strongest league.

The list of legends set for the press conference includes Uruguay's Diego Forlan, England's Steve Mcmanaman, Spain's Luis Garcia, Mali's Frederic Kanoute, France's Christian Karembeu, Spain's Gaizka Mendieta and Head of La La Liga's Ambassador's program, former Real Madrid player Fernando Sanz.

Diego Forlan is considered to be one of Uruguay's most iconic players in history. He is a two-time winner of both the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe. With the Uruguay national team, he had huge inpidual success at the 2010 World Cup, finishing as joint top scorer with five goals, including the goal of the tournament, and winning the Golden Ball as the tournament's best player.

He had had a successful international career, scoring 36 times for his country between his debut in 2002 and his retirement in 2015, including six goals at FIFA World Cups. He also played in various huge clubs including Manchester United, Villareal, Athletico Madrid and Inter Milan.

McManaman was the most decorated English footballer to have played for a club abroad during his time at Real Madrid and is regarded as one of the best players of his generation, with the UEFA website stating in 2012 that "of all England's footballing exports in the modern era, none was as successful as McManaman".

After nine years at Liverpool, during which time he won the FA Cup and League Cup, McManaman moved to Real Madrid in 1999. The transfer became one of the most high-profile Bosman rulings of all time.

He became the first English player to win the UEFA Champions League with a non-English club in 2000, and two years later became the first English player to win the Champions League twice. He also won La Liga twice before moving to Manchester City in 2003.

Luis Garcia played professionally for Barcelona and Atlético Madrid in his homeland Spain, amongst others – being brought up in the former's youth ranks appearing abroad for Liverpool, with whom he won the 2005 Champions League and the 2006 FA Cup.

Over the course of eight seasons, García amassed La Liga totals of 150 games and 22 goals. A Spanish international for three years, he earned 20 caps and represented the nation at the 2006 World Cup.

Kanoute played as a striker for several top-tier clubs in Europe, enjoying his greatest success with La Liga side Sevilla. Kanouté was named the 2007 African Footballer of the Year, the first player born outside Africa to win the award.

The Malian legend began his career with Lyon in France before moving to West Ham United of the Premier League in 2000. After a spell at their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Kanouté moved to Spanish club Sevilla where he won two consecutive UEFA Cups in 2006 and 2007 in addition to various other European and domestic honours and remains the club's highest-scoring foreign player.

Karembeu represented Nantes, Sampdoria, Real Madrid, Middlesbrough, Olympiacos, Servette, and Bastia. He found much success on the national stage as well representing France, having been born in the overseas territory New Caledonia, and was a vital part of the squad that won the 1998 FIFA World Cup on home soil and featured in one match in France's victorious UEFA Euro 2000 campaign.

Mendieta played mainly for Valencia, and finished his career with Middlesbrough in England. Over the course of ten seasons, he amassed La Liga totals of 263 games and 48 goals. He played 40 times for Spain, appearing for the country in one World Cup and one European Championship.

Sanz spent seven years of his professional career with Málaga after starting out at Real Madrid appearing in 228 official games. He is the son of the late Lorenzo Sanz Real Madrid's former president Lorenzo Sanz and the current head of La Liga's Ambassadors program.

The Spanish Football league was suspended a couple of months back due to the spread of the novel Coronavirus but is set to resume on June the 13th.

La Liga will be the second of Europe's top five leagues to resume after the delay caused by the coronavirus pandemic. Applause from fans across the world will be played in stadiums in the 20th minute of matches to "show support for the heroes of the Covid-19 pandemic.
