Mohammed Kudus faces fresh uncertainty over his return from injury after Tottenham Hotspur FC confirmed the forward may require surgery.

The 25-year-old had been expected to spend around three months on the sidelines after suffering a quad injury during a 1-1 draw against Sunderland AFC in early January. However, his recovery has now been complicated by a setback.

In an official statement, Tottenham said Kudus had recently returned to team training but would now undergo further specialist evaluation, with surgery a possible outcome.

Kudus joined Spurs last summer from West Ham United FC for a reported fee of 55 million pounds. He has scored three goals in 26 appearances this season.

New head coach Roberto De Zerbi described Kudus as a key player but acknowledged the team must move forward in his absence as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.

The injury also casts doubt over Kudus’ participation with the Ghana national football team at the upcoming World Cup.

Ghana are scheduled to face Panama, England, and Croatia in the group stage.

Kudus previously impressed at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, scoring twice in Ghana’s victory over South Korea, though the team exited the competition in the group stage.
