In a remarkable development in the Russian official statements, the  Russian Presidency ( the Kremlin) acknowledged for the first time that the conflict in Ukraine may extend for a long period of time and will not end soon.

Russian officials had hinted earlier that Moscow was ready to face long-term repercussions, but the Presidential Office has so far avoided giving comments on expectations related to this, especially those issued by Western leaders.

"The crisis over Ukraine will prolong," presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, adding that the tension between Russia and Western countries would not ease.

In an interview with US media, Peskov said that his country "will never trust the West again," noting that "the crisis over Ukraine will extend for a long time."

On his part, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had previously declared that "the world must prepare for the fact that the conflict in Ukraine will be long-term and may extend for years."
