As it was mentioned before, slimming pills aren't the only way to lose weight, but there are food supplements and medications which could accelerate the slimming process.

Here is Dr. Baher El Saeed, a famous pharmacist on Facebook, continuing his talking about different slimming ways during his weekly interview with InBox TV program aired on Sada El Balad 2 channel.

Regime Tea

Regarding regime tea, Dr. Saaed said that the regime tea is a herbal tea which consists of three various types of herbs aiming to reduce weight and stomach cramps and get rid of toxins in the body.

It is preferred to drink it twice daily for one month only to avoid its side effects like paralysis of the intestine and loss of large quantities of the body's minerals.

Dr. Saeed advised pregnant and breastfeeding women not to drink the regime tea as well as who are taking diuretic medications.

The pharmacist also mentioned that eating parsley helps in getting rid of the excess water in the body.

Metformin

For the diabetics, if they are interested in slimming, they should resort to metformin as the most common medication used. Metformin lowers the amount of sugar in the blood of people with diabetes by declining the amount of sugar produced in the liver.

It is also an effective way to treat women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). It should be taken for two to three months under the doctor's supervision.

"Overusing this medication reduces the absorption of vitamin B12 beside it rarely causes lactic acidosis," Saeed noted.

He strongly warned of using injections which burn calories, saying that they aren't licensed by the Health Ministry here and have negative impacts on the heart and nervous system as well as causing hormonal imbalances.

Green Tea

Dr. Saeed said: "The green tea is a natural treasure as it works as a food supplement in the slimming process as it contains big quantities of antioxidants."

The green tea protects from aging and very useful for heart and liver patients, diabetics, and teeth as it combats dental caries.

It also enters in the components of anti-aging wrinkle creams.

Orlistat

Dr. Saeed mentioned that orlistat is the only drug for slimming as it reduces the absorption of 30% of fats.

Orlistat works as a weight stabilizer rather than for weight loss. It helps in losing from 10 to 20% of the fats in the body.

Children who are under 12 years old shouldn't take orlistat.
