New York Knicks stormed into the NBA Finals for the first time since 1999 after crushing the Cleveland Cavaliers 130-93 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Monday night.
The dominant victory at Rocket Arena completed a 4-0 series sweep for the Knicks, who extended their playoff winning streak to 11 games.
Jalen Brunson led New York once again and was unanimously named Eastern Conference Finals MVP after receiving the Larry Bird Trophy from Knicks legend Walt Frazier. Brunson finished with 15 points and five assists before sitting out the entire fourth quarter.
Karl-Anthony Towns recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Knicks in scoring, while OG Anunoby added 17 points.
The Knicks took control early, building a 12-point lead after the opening quarter before a huge second-quarter run effectively ended the contest.
New York outscored Cleveland 23-6 early in the second period and entered halftime with a commanding advantage.
Donovan Mitchell scored 31 points for Cleveland in the defeat, while Evan Mobley contributed 15 points and seven rebounds. James Harden finished with 12 points after struggling from three-point range.
The Knicks will now await the winner of the Western Conference Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder, with the series currently tied 2-2. The NBA Finals are set to begin on June 3.
New York’s appearance in the Finals marks the franchise’s first since losing to the Spurs in 1999 under former head coach Jeff Van Gundy. The Knicks are now chasing their first NBA championship since 1973.
