King Charles III arrived in Germany, on his first state visit since being declared king of Britain, as part of efforts to turn the page on years of troubled relations between Britain and the European Union after London left the bloc.
King Charles III arrived in Berlin on Wednesday, accompanied by his wife Camilla, on his first state visit abroad since his accession to the throne of Britain, in what the German president considered an "important European gesture" after the United Kingdom's exit from the European Union.
The UK King and his wife, after being received by the German Chief of Protocol and the British Ambassador to Germany, went to the Brandenburg Gate in central Berlin, where they were received by German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his wife.
On Thursday, the visiting king will hold talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and will deliver a speech in the Bundestag (parliament) and meet Ukrainian refugees.
The royal couple's visit to Germany ends Friday in Hamburg, Germany's second-largest city.
