Former Germany and Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has said that Mohamed Salah has chances of winning The Best FIFA Men’s Player of the Year award.

2021 was a special year for Mohamed Salah on the inpidual level, despite failing to clinch any team silverware with both Liverpool and the Egyptian national team.

Since August, Salah broke multiple major records, becoming Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League top scorer of all time, and overcoming Drogba’s record as the all-time Premier League African top scorer.

During the finalists’ announcement via a FIFA live stream, World Cup winner Khedira was asked about Salah’s chances of claiming the award, whether this year or the next one.

“Of course, he has the possibility, but my favorite is Robert Lewandowski,” Khedira replied.

“But what Salah did the last few years for Liverpool and Egypt, it’s just a great honor for every African player and for the countries because they are not in the big shiny pictures as maybe the Europeans or South Americans.

“Africa is a big continent and an amazing continent but when you talk about football it’s not that big and maybe they have not that big attention.
