UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has not been invited to the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, Downing Street confirmed on Thursday.

While Starmer will not attend, prominent right-wing figures, including UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage, are set to be present in Washington for the event on Monday.

In response to queries, a spokesperson for Starmer explained that it is customary for foreign governments to be represented at US presidential inaugurations by their ambassadors.

As such, UK Ambassador to the US, Karen Pierce, will represent the United Kingdom at the ceremony.

The spokesperson added that Starmer had congratulated President Trump on his election victory and expressed a willingness to work with him, noting that the two leaders had spoken by phone earlier in the month and agreed to meet at the earliest opportunity.

Typically, foreign heads of state or government are not invited to attend US presidential inaugurations.

However, Trump has broken from this tradition by inviting a select few, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

Notably, European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron have not received invitations either.

Farage, a prominent figure in the UK's right-wing political scene, had previously announced his attendance at the inauguration.

Other European far-right personalities, such as French politician Éric Zemmour, former French National Rally member Marion Maréchal, and Alternative for Germany (AfD) leader Tino Chrupalla, have also confirmed their participation.
