Born in Lyon to Algerian parents, Karim Benzema has been found guilty of blackmailing a teammate with a sex tape.
The Real Madrid striker was handed a one-year suspended jail term and was fined with €75,000.
According to allegations, Benzema was one of five people put on trial over an attempt to extort Mathieu Valbuena.
The case dates back to June 2015, when the two footballers were at a French training camp, where Benzema put pressure on Valbuena to pay off the blackmailers, whom he had conspired with, according to prosecutors.
The French footballer has always denied the allegations and insisted he was only trying to help Valbuena get rid of the video.
