José Mourinho has reportedly signed a contract to take charge of Real Madrid CF until June 2029, according to The Athletic.
The agreement will only take effect after the club’s presidential election scheduled for June 7, and only if incumbent president Florentino Pérez is re-elected.
Mourinho’s future at the club remains uncertain as presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme has reportedly indicated that the Portuguese coach is not part of his sporting plans should he win the election.
The report adds that Pérez previously held discussions with Mourinho regarding a potential return to the Santiago Bernabéu, while the coach is also attracting interest from S.L. Benfica, who are keen to extend his stay.
Mourinho himself recently said he was uncertain about his future, stating that he would make an announcement once a final decision is reached, while also confirming that he still has an active contract and freedom to decide his next step.
It has also been reported that Real Madrid have already paid a €3 million release clause to secure his departure from Benfica.
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga in the 2011-12 season, the Copa del Rey in 2010-11, and the Spanish Super Cup in 2012.
