Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, President of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the importance of exploring economic, commercial, and service opportunities, and finding non-traditional markets to enhance trade exchanges between Jordan and Uzbekistan.
During a remote meeting with Jordan's Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Dimay Haddad, attended by Vice Presidents Nabil Al-Khatib and Bahjat Hamdan, and Deputy Secretary Falah Al-Saghir, Al-Haj Tawfiq highlighted the role that the Jordanian embassy in Uzbekistan can play in providing a database on exportable goods and the Uzbek market's needs for goods and services.
According to a statement from the chamber, the meeting aimed to follow up on the outcomes of a previous encounter with an official Uzbek delegation that visited the Amman Chamber of Commerce to assess the volume of trade exchanges and address barriers to trade. The meeting outlined a new phase of cooperation at the private sector level to enhance the trade exchanges and establish investment partnerships.
Al-Haj Tawfiq mentioned that an agreement was reached for the Jordanian embassy in Tashkent to arrange specialized virtual meetings for trade, services, information technology, tourism, transportation, and the food sector, in coordination with the Tashkent Chamber of Commerce. This initiative aims to allow the chamber to evaluate the outcomes of these meetings and identify the main goods and services that could enter the Uzbek market, as well as attract Uzbek investments to Jordan, in preparation for a Jordanian trade delegation's visit to Uzbekistan.
He noted that trade exchanges between the countries are still below aspirations, despite the availability of opportunities and potential, requiring more efforts to enhance them and find effective tools to activate them and remove any difficulties impeding the smooth flow of goods.
Ambassador Haddad pointed out that Jordan is keen on maintaining good relations with all friendly nations, with Uzbekistan holding a special place. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of Jordan's private sector in enhancing cooperation between the two countries and his commitment to developing economic and trade relations.
Haddad acknowledged some challenges in increasing trade between the two countries, notably transportation barriers due to the absence of direct flights. However, he suggested that all obstacles could be overcome with sufficient will and the availability of alternative commercial transportation routes.
Members of the board emphasized that the visit of a Jordanian trade delegation from various commercial sectors to Uzbekistan is a significant event that strengthens bilateral relations and underscores the mutual desire to enhance cooperation in various fields, especially economic, trade, and investment sectors.
They also highlighted the need to bolster tourism cooperation, promote the tourism product, particularly religious tourism, facilitate the flow of tourists between the countries, and promote Uzbekistan as a tourist destination through Jordanian travel companies affiliated with the chamber, as well as promoting Jordan through the Uzbek side.
