Minister of Media Affairs in Jordan Amjad Adaileh on Tuesday announced a 48-hour sweeping nationwide curfew that would start from Friday in a stepped-up bid to stem the spread of the coronavirus.

Adaileh also added that some of the precautionary measures, including the curfew, which imposed on a number of cities in the country would be lifted starting from the upcoming week.

The ministry of health Saad Jaber said that the country has reported 6 new COVID-19 coronavirus cases, raising the total number of confirmed cases to 397.

"Up to 20 cases have recovered so far," the minister added.

Several world countries have tightened restrictions on movement and travel, with the aim of curbing the spread of the Coronavirus, and some have pledged billions of dollars in economic stimulus programs to reduce the economic repercussions of the crisis.

More than 120,000 people have died so far worldwide because of the coronavirus pandemic, and 1.9 million people have been infected with the COVID-19 as the cases continue to rise around the world.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared COVID-19 a global pandemic as the new virus has rapidly spread to more than 121,000 people from Asia to the Middle East, Europe, and the United States.

More cases of the virus, which causes respiratory disease COVID-19, continue to emerge, with outbreaks in South Korea, Italy, and Iran.

People across the globe partake in self-isolation for 14 days as an effective precautionary measure to protect those around them and themselves from contracting COVID-19.
