Algeria secured a crucial 2–1 victory over Jordan in their second Group J match at the FIFA World Cup 2026, held at the San Francisco Bay Arena.
The result marked Algeria’s first win of the tournament and lifted them to three points, while Jordan’s campaign came to an end in their maiden World Cup appearance.
Jordan struck first in the 35th minute through Nizar Al-Rashdan, giving the debutants hope of a historic result.
However, Algeria responded strongly in the second half, with Ahmed Nadir Ben Bouali restoring parity in the 68th minute after sustained pressure.
The comeback was completed in the 82nd minute when Amine Gouiri found the decisive goal to turn the match around in Algeria’s favour.
The win allowed Algeria to recover from their opening 3–0 defeat to Argentina, keeping their qualification hopes alive.
In contrast, Jordan, who had also lost their first group match against Austria, were eliminated after failing to collect any points from their first two games.
