UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson will resign after a wave of resignations hit his government during the past two days, local sources reported.

British ITV Channel said Johnson will submit his resignation in a statement he will make within hours after the resignation of more than 50 senior officials from his government.

BCC mentioned that the British prime minister will resign from Conservative Party leadership today, Thursday, and he will continue as a prime minister until the autumn.

The corporation added that the election of the party leadership will take place in the summer, while the new prime minister will take office before the Conservative Party Conference scheduled in October.

The shock resignations came after Johnson offered new apologies for an additional scandal, admitting that he had made a “mistake” for appointing Chris Pincher last February in his government as Deputy Chief Whip.

Despite growing Conservative rebellion against his leadership, Johnson insists on continuing working as prime minister.

Although Home Secretary Priti Patel was one of his allies, she agreed that Johnson has to leave the office.

However, the prime minister says he has a huge mandate from the 2019 elections and that he will continue, noting that leaving the office now would be an “irresponsible” move.
